The NetModule Router Software Winter Release 4.5.0.101 and the Bugfix Releases 4.4.0.108, 4.3.0.109 and 4.1.0.113 are released. The release notes and downloads can be found below.
Please note that 4.1.0.113 is the last release of version 4.1 and we are discontinuing our support. We recommend our customers to update to a newer NRSW version.
New NRSW-Feature – WLAN Encryption with WPA3
The new release includes a new feature - WPA3 for encrypting WLAN networks. As with its predecessors WPA and WPA2, WPA3 has two variants. In "Personal Mode", all users use the same pre-shared key (PSK) for authentication. Enterprise mode, on the other hand, offers the respective user the option of logging into the network via TLS, for example, based on a certificate.Protected Management Frames (PMF, 802.11w extension) are also a fundamental component of WPA3. PMFs ensure the integrity of network management traffic and thus increase resistance to attacks. To ensure that older WLAN clients that only support WPA2 are also compatible with the new security standard, there is a mixed mode (WPA3/WPA2). This allows older clients to connect to a WPA3 network as well - the respective connection then falls back to WPA2.
WPA-3 Personal
The classic WPA2-PSK authentication is replaced by WPA3-SAE (Simultaneous Authenticationof Equals). This means that the key is no longer transmitted over the air. This makes it more difficult to draw conclusions about the key by recording the handshake and increases security, especially for weak passwords. This makes it almost impossible to crack a WLAN with dictionary attacks.
WPA3-Enterprise
For WLAN networks in the corporate environment, 192-bit encryption is used as a minimum with WPA3 - with WPA2 it was 128 bits. This provides additional security for sensitive areas such as industry, passenger and operational data, authorities, etc.
