The communications specialist NetModule is expanding its product range with a further industrial router: The high-performance NB1800 router enables fastest Internet access via LTE, WiFi and Ethernet. Its applications range from remote access, WLAN hotspots, edge computing, industrial firewalls, voice gateways to VPN servers.
Up to 2 LTE Advanced or WiFi IEEE 802.11 ac modules, two fast Gigabit Ethernet and a fiber optic interface provide the basis for reliable high-speed connectivity. The other functional features of the high-performance device (Dual Core, 1.3GHz ARM CPU) include a USB host port and a serial RS-232 or RS-485 interface. Two expansion slots can be used for application-specific interfaces. With DIN rail mounting, a wide temperature range and IP40 housing, the NB1800 is designed for operation under harsh conditions.
As with its big brother, the NB1810, custom applications can be easily stored and executed in a separate container from the base system via the script-based SDK environment or LXC virtualization. For example, the NB1800 router can be used as a protocol converter because the interface data can be pre-processed on the device before being transferred to the network interfaces. Alternatively, an integrated SD card slot allows data storage on the router.
As with all NetModule routers, the router software is based on proven components including a Linux operating system: Dual SIM in combination with the WAN Link Manager provides redundancy and load balancing to ensure the highest possible connectivity in multiple provider networks. VLANs separate networks and provide dedicated communication paths for different applications. Quality of Service (QoS) prioritizes data traffic and prevents less important tasks from blocking those with the highest priority. Thanks to the VPN protocol suite and firewall functionalities that are part of the comprehensive NetModule router software, remotely located devices can be connected easily and securely. The required performance is provided by the Dual Core CPU.
The NB1800 supports many communication and routing protocols such as MobileIP, OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) and RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol). In addition, e-mail and SMS can be sent for alarms and notifications, a web server and RADIUS authentication as well as hidden SSIDs for WiFi.
